Egg quality and time of oviposition in laying hens housed on deep litter
Original language description
An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of time of oviposition on egg quality characteristics on deep litter housing systém. ISA brown hens from 20 to 64 weeks of age were housed on deep litter (7 hen/m2). Every four weeks, 30 eggs for each oviposition time were used for egg quality assessment. The results indicated that on litter housing systém, there were significant (P≤0,05) differences in the proportion of normal sound eggs laid through on the day but no significant differenceswere observed in the percentages of the nonstandard and cracked eggs. The greatest percentages of the normal sound eggs produced were at 10:00 hr (35.43%) and at 12:00 hr (33.03%). On litter housing system, time of oviposition had no significant effecton egg weight and eggshell quality characteristics except for shell thickness. Morning eggs had greater shell thickness (0.398mm) than afternoon eggs (0.390mm). Statistically significant differences were observed in albumen height, albume
