The plant species richness of pasture patches under two grazing intensities

  • Original language description

Measurements of botanical composition at the patch scale are becoming increasingly important in grassland management studies. The experiment was established in 1998 with a continuous stocking rate grazing system to evaluate the plant species compositionof intensively and non-grazed patches in a pasture. Non grazed patches had the highest number of species (30) and intensively grazed patches had only 18 plant species. Grasses (68%) and forbs (28%) dominated in the first case and in the second case grasses had 67% and legumes 22% of dominance.
