  • Original language description

In an experiment with 225 d old Cobb 500 broiler chickens, the effect of partial and total replacement of soybean meal with chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.) on productivity and meat composition was determined. In the 7 wk experiment, chickens were allocated to five dietary treatments , CKP120, HCKP120, CKP240 and HCKP240 of being: CKPO, 45 birds each, and received a concentrate mixture ad libitum. The concentrate mixture for the CKPO group had no while those for groups CKP120, and chickpeas (control), CKP240 included 120 and 240 kg/t of raw chickpeas, respectively, and for groups HCKP120, and HCKP240 included 120 and 240 kg/t of heated chickpeas (dry heated at 115 degrees C for 25 min), respectively. Isonitrogenous and isoenergetic (13.0 MJ of metabolisable energy/kg of the concentrate mixture) partial replacement of soybean meal with chickpeas at inclusion levels of 120 kg/t of the concentrate mixture (i.e., treatments CKP120 and HCKP120) did not affect final body weight, daily feed con
