Compared with the two other areas of the Czech Republic where detailed investigations of Diptera were performed, viz., the Pálava Biosphere Reserve and the industrially affected area of NW Bohemia, the ptychopterid fauna of Podyjí NP is unusually rich. It embraces six species, i.e. 66.7 % of the Czech fauna, whereas only three species were captured in the Pálava BR (30 %, STARÝ 1998) and five species in NW Bohemia (55.6 %, STARÝ & BARTÁK 2000). The Sörensen´s coefficient of similarity between Podyjí andthe faunas of Bílina and Pálava was 72 % and 66 %, respectively. In addition to the common species, a rare species, P. minuta, was recorded only in the latter area. The known localities of all other species are mostly scattered over the whole of the Czech Republic, only P. longicauda is known from a limited number of collecting sites, though from the area under study (Vranov nad Dyjí) was already recorded by ZITEK-ZWYRTEK (1971).
