  • Original language description

Solva marginata is the only species recorded in all three recently dipterologically investigated areas in the Czech Republic, viz., the Pálava Biosphere Reserve (ROZKOŠNÝ 1998), industrial area of NW Bohemia (ROZKOŠNÝ & BARTÁK 2000) and Podyjí NP (treated here). The two other species of this family known from the Czech Republic, S. varia and X. maculata, were recorded only in a few localities in southern Moravia and particularly the Pálava BR, but all records are more than 40 years old. Many collectionlocalities in Podyjí NP are situated in deciduous or even floodplain forests, along their margins or in forest-steppes, so a relatively high frequency of S. marginata is not surprising. The larvae find here a good opportunity for their development in decaying logs and stumps of deciduous trees.
