    The agricultural activities in contaminated areas are strongly limited, and crop production can be relatively easily affected by higher accumulation of contaminants in harvestable parts of biomass. In the Czech Republic, Příbram area belongs among most contaminated ones representing contamination caused by atmospheric deposition of potentially toxic elements due to exploitation and processing of lead ores and lead production. Total soil contents of elements in the target area fluctuated within 0.2 and 7.6 mg.kg-1 of cadmium, and 123-2000 mg.kg-1 of lead. Planting of maize in soils with total lead content higher than 900 mg.kg-1 can lead to unacceptable risk of feedstuff contamination according to EU Directive act 32/2002.
