Effect of breed on basic characteristics of bull semen immediately after collection
Original language description
The objective of this study was to evaluate effect of breed on selected quantitative and qualitative sperm traits at time of semen collection of 46 bulls ? Holstein (H, n = 17), Czech Fleckvieh (C, n = 13), Aberdeen Angus (AA, n = 4), Belgian Blue (BB, n= 4), Limousine (LI, n = 4), and Simmental (SI, n = 4) bred from 1999 to 2014. The bulls were stabled on Sire insemination center. The feeding ratio was composed from the same feeds during the whole period. The frequency of semen collection per week wasthe same for all bulls observed. Sperm activity (ACT, %), density (DEN, 106 9 mm3 ), volume (VOL, g) immediately after semen collection as well as number of subsequently produced insemination doses (NID) were evaluated. Statistical evaluation was performed using SAS 9.3 with model including fixed effects of breed, bull age, year of born, and regression on month of collection. The highest ACT was observed in LI (77.99%) and AA (77.95%) compared to other breeds (p < 0.05 to 0.01). The hig
