The very first use of isozyme analysis of Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) populations in the Šumava national Park
Original language description
European silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) is a tree species that has declined in abundance in our forests in recent years. Changing ecological conditions and the impact of used forest management in the Central Europe are attributed as the main factors of decline. The outcome of the inventory carried out in the Šumava National Park between 1999 and 2002 showed, that the current abundance of European silver fir in our forests is only 0,7 %. According to the reconstructed potential natural species compositionof the Sumava National Park was the original European silver fir abundance approximately 13 %. One of the commissions of the National Park is, among other goals, to protect ecosystems typical for the mountainous landscape in Central Europe for current and next generations and also, provide the substantial ground for the active conservation of species and genetic diversity. This is the reason why the attention is also paid to preservation of genetic resources. Low abundance in forests an
