Abstract. A taxonomic revision of the Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) melancholica and A. (H.) thunbergi species-groups (Coleoptera: Buprestidae: Anthaxiini) with the description of five new species: Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) brunneipilis sp. nov. (Zambia), A. (H.) egeniformis sp. nov. (Benin), A. (H.) ruth sp. nov. (Namibia, Sout Africa, Tanzania), A. (H.) sphenoptera sp. nov. (Mozambique) and A. (H.) tanzanica sp. nov. (Tanzania). A new status is proposed for Anthaxia (H.) africandra Obenberger, 1928, stat. nov. and lectotype designations are given for A. (H.) albovillosa Kerremans, 1913, A.(H.) boera var. africandra Obenberger, 1928, A. (H.) katangae Obenberger, 1924, A. (H.) lukesi Obenberger, 1931, A. (H.) melancholica Gory, 1841, A. (H.) sjoestedti Kerremans, 1908, A. (H.) thunbergi Gory & Laporte, 1839 and A. (H.) dollmani Obenberger, 1931 (= A. (H.) albovillosa Kerremans, 1913).
