  • Original language description

The aim of the chapter is to focus on the role of forests and forestry in bioeconomy. Forests are important providers of renewable wood resources and ecosystem services necessarily needed by the society. Forests and forestry have an important economic impact in national economies, although the role varies substantially around the globe. The chapter includes information on bioeconomy strategies and evaluation of the inclusion of forestry in these strategies. Other parts of the chapter focus on the key actors in forest bioeconomy, assessment of the role of the renewable resources, forest certification, challenges for forest bioeconomy, and other relevant key topics of ongoing issues related to forest bioeconomy, e.g., circularity, cascading use of wood, and carbon neutrality.
