Plant community response to long-term N and P fertilization.
Original language description
The effect of phosphorus and nitrogen additions have been studied for 7 years in the Everglades. The results revealed that phosphorus additions eliminated bladerwort (Utricularia spp.) which is replaced by stoneworts (Chara spp.). Phosphorus additions resulted in increase aboveground biomass of both sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense) and cattail (Typha domingensis). However, the encroachment of cattail into sawgrass has not been observed. Additions of single nitrogen did not affect the macrophytes.
