Original language description
Stigmidium californicum is described from corticolous Caloplaca species in the Channel Islands of southern California (USA) and in Baja California (Mexico). The new species belongs to Stigmidium s. str. and differs from species with similar ascospore sizes by chromatic reactions to 1% solution of brilliant cresyl blue (BCr) and genera of hosts, and from S. cerinae in chromatic reaction and ascomata and ascospore sizes and occurs on different species of Caloplaca.
