Modelling species distributions with simulated virtual species
Original language description
The use of virtual species is indisputably a valuable approach to test various aspects of SDMs, but with regard to the desirable outcomes of SDMs (probability of occurrence) a probabilistic approach should be adopted to generate artificial datasets. Future studies should follow the guidelines Meynard & Kaplan (2012, 2013) have proposed for generating artificial species, all of which are now implemented in the virtualspecies package (Leroy et al.,2014) in the statistical software R.
