Conversion of coniferous even-aged monocultures ? the starting point of nature oriented silviculture
Original language description
This paper deals with a transformation of the pure even-aged forest stands to more mixed and uneven-aged stands on an example of the School Forest Enterprise (SFE) in Kostelec nad Černými lesy. The transformation of even-aged pure spruce or pine forest stands into forest stands with more complex stand structure is a key topic of forest management in many countries. The conversion of the spruce even-aged monocultures in the SFE territory started at the beginning of the 20th century. This process was accelerated after SFE foundation and forest management was importantly influenced by the Faculty of Forestry. However, this effort was interrupted after 1970 and only several years ago, there was renewed an interest about ideas of close-to-nature forest management. At the SFE territory, namely prof. Poleno was important embarked to the forest management at the SFE. He was a propagator of close-to nature forest management and he was applied shelterwood management system with long regeneration
