    The presentation deals with the problem of forest typology in the Bilateral Biosphere Reserve Krkonoše/Karkonosze based on detailed field studies both in Czech as well as in Polish part of these mountains. The Czech and Polish typological systems are analyzed including the map outputs, and the map of the potential vegetation for the comparison is documented and commented. The basic unit for the differentiation of growth conditions is represented by the Forest Type in the Czech Republic, which is considered as forest biocoenoses set, natural as well as changed including the development stages and the whole site complex, i.e. as the evolutionary coherent set of geobiocoenoses. The basic unit in the Polish part is represented by the site forest type, involving forest communities representing succession stages.
