Isoflavones in selected representatives of the Rutaceae family

  • Original language description

Isoflavones are secondary metabolites reported to display a wide scale of biological activities to plant consuming animals including humans. They are abundant in the Leguminosae, although their biosynthesis was described in a limited number of other families, e.g. Rosaceae, Iridaceae, Compositae. In this study, we aimed to determine the occurrence of isoflavones in the Rutaceae family. We focus especially on the genera Ruta and Citrus, however the representatives of the genera Murraya, Poncirus, Fortunella, Citrofortunella and Severinia were also included to the screening studies. Immunoassays were used for the initial screening of crude extracts of tested plant materials. Pre-selected samples were fractionated by HPLC, analyzed again and the retentiontimes of immunoreactive fractions were compared to those of authentic standards. Immunochemically positive samples were evaluated by HPLC-MS-SIM in order to confirm the identity of individual compounds. Isoflavonoid immunoreactivities we
