INTRODUCTION: Isoflavones (3-phenyl chromones) are phytoalexins abundant in the Fabaceae, however their biosynthesis was described in over 20 other families, e.g. Rosaceae, Iridaceae, Asteraceae, Poaceae. Recently, we have found isoflavonoids in the Rutaceae family. Here we present isoflavonoid patterns of representatives from the genera Ruta (namely R. graveolens and R. montana) and Citrus (five species).EXPERIMENTAL: Water-ethanolic extracts from lyophilized leaves were fractionated on a semipreparative HPLC (column: METACHEM POLARIS C18A, mobile phase: a gradient 0.3% formic acid : acetonitrile) and the individual fractions were analyzed by a set of five immunoassays specific for derivatives of daidzein, genistein and biochanin A. Chromatographic mobility of immunoreactive fractions was compared to that of the authentic standards. Identities of main immunoreactive species were subsequently verified by HPLC-MS in a SIM mode.RESULTS: All Ruta and Citrus plants contained numerous isofl
