Original language description
If one were to look for a link between Frantz Fanon’s decolonizing thought and Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s late phenomenology— two projects which, on first glance, appear completely divergent—one would have to focus the search on their shared effort for a radical renewal of ontology. Both authors, otherwise connected only by the year 1961, the date of their death, repudiate the division of the world: between the colonizers and the colonized, in Fanon’s case and between the visible and the invisible, in Merleau-Ponty’s. A certain correlation becomes apparent simply by drawing an analogy between these two conceptual couples, as invisibility is among the crucial qualities of the colonized, while the colonizer is clearly visible.
