Cyclopentadiene was lithiated with BuLi and then reacted with 1,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6-tridecafluoro-8-iodooctane to afford (3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl)cyclopentadiene. Repeated lithiation with BuLi, followed by addition of 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl triflate yielded the target bis(3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl)cyclopentadiene in a good yield as a mixture of four regioisomers.
