Anode Material Aspects of the Electrochemical Ferrate (VI) Synthesis
Original language description
Ferrate (VI) production by electrochemical oxidation of iron anodes that differ in their carbon content was studied in a batch?operating mode. White cast iron was identified as the most suitable anode material. This was explained in terms of deterioratedpassivating properties of an oxy-hydroxide layer covering the surface of this anode material. This explanation was supported by the results of the electrochemical impedance study over a wide range of passive and transpassive potentials performed using electrodes made of pure and white cast iron. At the same time, it has been found that the anode material influences the stability of ferrate (VI) produced. In order to understand in more detail the properties of the oxy-hydroxide layer passivating the anode surface, an in situ Mössbauer spectroscopy study in the transpassive potential region was performed at different electrolyte concentrations (0.1 ? 14 M NaOH). The layer was found to consist of two sublayers differing in their protectiv
