Effect of Electrical Field on Dipoles in Polymer
Original language description
Orientation of two bipolar compounds embeddedin polymer composites was studied. Poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) dissolved in acetone was dopedwith a cobaltborane derivative of 1,2-dimethylimidazole andpolystyrene (PS) dissolved in toluene was doped withthe3-(1,2-dimethyl imidazole)-borane. To orient the dipoles, thecomposites were exposed to external electrical field: PMMAcomposite at the temperature of glass transition (Tg) and PScomposite during evaporation of the toluene solvent. Thedegree of dipoleorientation was estimated by the change inrelative permittivity ( ) of the resulting composite film. Thedependence of the on the temperature, frequency, voltage, and dipole concentration was studied. It was found that thedipole#s distribution in the composite .lm was not homogenous. At the Tg, the dipoles in PMMA became oriented byexternal direct electrical .eld and the orientation was conservedafter cooling to lower temperatures. In a PS-basedcomposite, the significant permittivity incre
