Employing Pyr-GC apparatus for catalyst screening
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to describe the pyrolysis chromatography (Pyr-GC) instrumentation in the role of a reactor for catalyst screening tests. The results of several model experiments will be discussed from the point of view of obtained data handlingand their significance. The commercially available equipment (Shimadzu Pyr-4A pyrolyser and Shimadzu GC-17A gas chromatographs) was converted into the pulse reactor with an on-line sample analysis. Catalytic cracking of 1-hexene over ZSM-5 and HY type zeolite catalysts was used as a model catalytic reaction. The results confirmed the technique as an efficient tool for screening tests in gaseous-phase reaction systems and/or catalytic systems. It allows working with very small amounts of both the catalyst and the reaction substrate, yet it can supply quite a large amount of experimental data in a short time period and thus it can shorten the research time significantly.
