?-Pineneoxide is an industrially available chemical substance. Its two rings in the molecule (oxirane ring and carbon ring) offer many possible products after ring opening (e.g. myrtenal, myrtenol, perillyl aldehyde, perillyl alcohol, menthen and other).Many acidic as same as basic catalysts were tested. Basic catalysts caused only opening of oxirane ring, but the acidic catalysts open both rings. The most desirable product from the large amount of possible products is perillyl alcohol and this work isfocused on its preparation.
