Original language description
Kovohutě Příbram has developed technology of portable zinc-carbon and alkaline batteries treatment. Technology consists of their crushing, sorting components and their utilization. To comply with new goals for recycling efficiency set by Directive 2006/66/EU VSCHT Praha develops hydrometallurgical method to utilize electrode material, which is the key factor to fill the goal. Present work describes method of batteries treatment used and in details especially results of tests of hydrometallurgical treatment of active mass originated from spent Zn/MnO2 batteries after their dismantling. The active mass containing about 20% Zn and 30% Mn was leached in diluted H2SO4 at laboratory temperature to achieve maximum zinc extraction with the simultaneous minimumextraction of manganese.
