Story of the electrodes for the high temperature PEM type fuel cell at ICT Prague
Original language description
Polymer Electrolyte membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) nowadays suffer from several serious drawbacks, which are related mainly to slow electrode kinetics (neccessity of high platinum loads, catalyst poissons sensitivity, etc.). Majority of these problems can beelimminated by increase of operating temperature (up to 200 °C). This contribution summarizes the experiments on optimalization of gas diffusion electrode for the high temperature PEMFC equipped with polybenzimidazole (PBI) membrane soaked by phosphoricacid. The influence of various parameters as: nature of gas diffusion layer, concentration of platinum in carbon supported catalyst, incorporation of suitable polymer used as a binder of catalyst layer (PTFE, PBI) and method of catalyst layer preparation (brushing, spraying), was investigated.
