The work was focused on a system consisting of the polyimide matrix synthesized from the monomers 4,4?-(hexafluoroisopropyli-dene)diphtalic anhydride and 4,4?-oxydianiline, and silicalite-1. A large number of images of membrane polished sections were statistically characterized using morphological descriptors. The statistical information served as an input for stochastic reconstruction of the 3D membrane microstructure. Effective diffusivity of an arbitrary fluid in the replicas was estimated by exploiting the formal analogy between random walks and solutions of the Laplace equation. Finally, experimental effective diffusivity was compared with its theoretical counterpart obtained by simulating the random walk.
