Original language description
In this study, recovery of Zn from spent Zn-MnO2 batteries was investigated. Electrode materials containing about 20% Zn and 30% Mn were obtained after dismantling household batteries. The electrode materials were leached in diluted H2SO4 at laboratory temperature. Iron was removed from the leach liquors using hydrolytic precipitation, Cu, Cd and Ni by cementation precipitation. Manganese removal was achieved by oxidative precipitation using NaClO. Basic zinc carbonate, a suitable intermediate for Zn production by electrowinning or ZnO production, was precipitated from the refined solution.
