Using of rehydrated kaolinites for decontamination of areas polluted by arsenic, antimony and selenium

  • Original language description

Anionactive sorbents were prepared from rehydrated kaolinite using the modification of raw clay with 0.6 M FeCl2. New sorbents were used for the removal of arsenic, selenium and antimony, which are human carcinogens that, in small amounts, are widely distributed in water. The natural kaolinite was calcined to metakaolinite (dehydroxylation) at 650 °C and then rehydrated at different temperature. To improve sorption properties to anionic particles, prepared metakaolinite was treated by rehydration in autoclave with Fe2+ ions. The best adsorption properties were found at the kaolinite rehydrated for 7 days. Adsorption parameters for As/Se/Sb oxyanions were calculated according to the Langmuir model. The adsorption affinity of toxic oxyanions decreased inthe order of Sb(V) } As(V) }Se(IV) } As(III), at the theoretical adsorption capacities range of 0.08 - 0.16.
