Original language description
Thin Au films of effective thickness 2-20 nm were prepared by sputtering method. The method of thermal dewetting was employed to alter the nanostructure of the films and the films were therefore annealed at 300oC for 1 h. Evolution of Au nano-islands during the annealing was studied by AFM method. UV-Vis spectroscopy documented changes of optical properties of the nanostructures, the evolution of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption band in particular. To study the sensitivity of the LSPR band absorption to the surrounding medium dielectric constant, experimental detection device was assembled. The device enabled observation of changes in the band absorption in real time and sensorgrams were obtained for the annealed Au films 2-20 nm thick. The highest sensitivity to saturated acetone vapors in air was found by the film 4 nm of effective thickness and the signal to noise ratio in this case reached SNR = 583.
