Silver nanowire arrays for LSPR- based gas sensing applications

  • Original language description

Silver nanowire arrays of effective thicknesses 20, 30, and 40 nm were prepared by shadow evaporation method on the nanostructured polyethyleneterephthalate surface. Surface morphology and effective thickness of Ag nanowires was studied by scanning electron microscopy equipped with focused ion beam cutter. UV-Vis spectroscopy documented evolution of strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption band in Ag nanowire arrays. To study the sensitivity of the LSPR band absorption to the surrounding medium, experimental detection device was assembled. We studied the dependence of sensitivity on effective thickness of individual nanowire. The device enabled observation of changes in the band absorption in real time and sensorgrams were obtainedfor the Ag nanowire arrays 20, 30, and 40 nm thick. The highest sensitivity to saturated water vapors in air was found for the Ag nanowires of effective thickness of 30 nm and the signal to noise ratio in this case reached the value SNR =
