Fast synthesis of graphite oxide via modified chlorate route
Original language description
The preparation of graphite oxide by the Hofmann method is known for a long time. In this method, pure graphite used as a precursor is further oxidized by potassium chlorate in strongly acidic environment. Original oxidation takes more than 2 days. On the other hand, our modified oxidation process provides similar degree of oxidation in a much shorter time. The prepared materials were analyzed in detail. Thermal properties were investigated using simultaneous thermal analysis combined with mass spectroscopy STA-MS in both air and inert atmosphere. Morphology, structure and chemical composition were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-Ray powder diffraction (XRD), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and elemental analysis (EA). These results are important for the fast and large scale synthesis of graphite oxides.
