This chapter described and explains the characterization of ceramic materials via microscopic image analysis, with a special focus on the stereological determination of grain size and pore size. Based on selected examples (fully dense transparent ceramics and highly porous ceramic foams), the application of these measurements for process control and optimzation is shown.
