When designing new glass-based materials, it is usual to use glasses made of complex component systems, which results in specific and quite unique material properties such as tailored dissolution kinetics, a property highly sensitive to the composition alteration. However, the preparation method and the crucible material can affect the resulting composition and overall glass properties. This work investigates the dissolution behavior and structure of simple glasses from the system P2O5-CaO prepared in porcelain crucibles. A series of glass samples with increasing phosphate content was subjected to a static dissolution experiment in demineralized water. Concentrations of P, Ca and Si in the leachates were evaluated using ICP-OES. The structure of glasses was observed via XRD and FTIR. The results showed majority of prepared samples had glassy structure. By dissolution experiments performed on prepared glasses, incongruent dissolution was observed at the metaphosphate type sample, congruent dissolution occurred at ultraphosphates. Suitable mathematical models describing observed behavior were proposed.
