Distribution of Aromatic Hydrocarbon Types in Middle Petroleum Distillates - Mass Spectrometry Methods Comparison Study
Original language description
The content of aromatic hydrocarbons in middle petroleum distillates has been carefully monitored. Besides today acquired and standardized chromatographic methods, mass spectrometry can provide a detailed information about the individual types of aromatic hydrocarbons presented in analyzed samples. The content of mono-, di- and polyaromatics in various samples of middle petroleum distillates was determined by liquid chromatography (LSC, HPLC) and MS methods and the comparison of the results obtained wasperformed. A detailed distribution of aromatic hydrocarbon types was also determined using different standardized and in literature published MS methods. It was found that the results obtained by almost all the MS methods used reasonably correlate withthe results obtained by liquid chromatographic methods. However, in case of a higher content of sulfur compounds in the analyzed samples a negative impact of these compounds on the determined distribution of aromatic hydrocarbon types was
