Materials for molten-salt reactors
Original language description
Czech technical universities and Texas A&M University participate in the project ADAR (Accelerator Driven Advanced Reactor) that is focused on evaluating a general design of molten salt reactors (MSR) and identifying „white spots“ on a research map. Department of Power Engineering will carry out a study to suggest materials with suitable corrosion properties. Equipment using molten salt technology need high operating temperatures that means higher demands on corrosion resistance and other properties of construction materials. Chosen construction materials with good heat and corrosion resistance, such as stainless steel and nickel alloys, should be used for the molten salt reactors. A high-temperature device for corrosion tests in chloride salts mixtures will be designed and constructed in this project. This paper describes the preliminary test of two materials under maximum conditions in older autoclave type.
