Metabolism of PCBs and PAHs in plant cells
Original language description
Differentiated and transformed plant cell cultures metabolised xenobiotics with higher efficiency than amorphous and non-transformed ones of the same species. This ability was comparable with that of intact plants (PCBs). One of the effective and promising cultures, metabolising during 30 days 40-60 % of PCBs present in Delor 103, was a hairy root clone of Solanum nigrum SNC-9O. The studies proved the formation of various hydroxylated derivatives, the main products of the conversion of monochlorbiphenyls were 4-hydroxylated-chlorobiphenyls. Also other mono- hydroxylated derivatives were originated from 2-chloro and 3-chlorobiphenyl. The toxicity of individual mono- and dichlorobiphenyls was higher than that of the recalcitrant mixture Delor 103, whichcontains also more chlorinated congeners.
