Plant enzymes involved in transformation of polychlorinated biphenyls
Original language description
Peroxidase activities were detected after cultivation of various plant species. Levels of the enzyme activity were correlated with the ability to metabolize polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) by plant cells. The cultures with high PCB-transforming activityproved to exhibit high ability to produce total peroxidases both in liquid medium and when growing on agar plates containing RBBR. The decolorization could be used as a rough screening method for plant cultures able to metabolize PCBs and other aromaticxenobiotics. In addition low activities of lignin peroxidase (LiP) and manganese dependent peroxidase (MnP) were detected in medium and in plant cells. No correlation of MnP and LiP activities with PCB transformation could be found.
