The dynamics of biofilm formation in a flow system
Original language description
A novel flow cell system using Steriking# membrane (Wipak Medical, Finland) for monitoring yeast biofilm formation has been designed. To demonstrate the utility of the method a biofilm composed of phenol degrading Candida maltosa was monitored under define conditions of: medium flow rate, nutrient profile, inoculum and the effect of inhibitors. Using biofilm-imaging technique the biofilm morphology was observed as well. Possible application for research in the area of environmental biotechnologies is discussed
