In recent years there has been a rapid expznsion of interest in the effects of fish oil on various physiological functions of animals. Many studies in humans and experimental animals have focused on the effects of fish oil on serum lipids, cholesterol and lipoproteins and on its role in atherogenesis and thrombogenesis. These studies show that fish oil influences lipid metabolism in several ways and maz be of value in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and inflammatory disorders. 1.Weanling Wistar rats, males and females, were fed diets containing 15% dietary fat in the form of a mixture of lard and partially oxidized fish oil for 185 days. The ratio of fish oil in the dietary fat ranged from 0 to 100% and the content of malonaldehyde from 0.3 to 19.6 mg/kg fat. 2.Animals fed diets with the higher ratios of oxidized fish oil had higher concentrations of malonaldehyde in their livers.
