Original language description
Isoflavones are phytoestrogens occuring chiefly in leguminous plants, however they were reported also in certain non-leguminous species. They were shown to influence steroid metabolizing enzymes and estrogen receptors in plant consuming animals and are thought to be capable of modifying the estrogen action in woman. The other effects on humans are the antioxidant activity, moderation of menopausal symptoms and prevention of several types of cancer (e.g. prostate and breast cancers), which are increasingly investigated in recent years. In this work, the development of polyclonal antibody-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for the determination of individual isoflavones, i.e. daidzein, genistein and biochanin, is presented. Isoflavone conjugates with bovine serum albumin were used as immunogens, coupled at the position C 7 and C 4' via a carboxy methyl spacer.
