    The Coumestrol Content in Alfalfa Following Ensilage

    An experiment evaluated the influence of several variables on the coumestrol content of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) silages. Two cultivars of alfalfa (Morava and Palava) were each harvested on May, June, and October 2000. The forage was allowed to wilt inthe swath to approximately 300 or 500 g/kg dry matter (DM). The number of lactic bacteria, mold, and yeast as well as pH and concentration of lactic acid were determined. The majority of the initial content of coumestrol disappeared during 50 days of ensiling, but some was still detected after 150 days.

    Byl studován vliv obsahu sušiny, doby sklizně a odrůdy vojtěšky (Medicago sativa) na obsah kumestrolu během silážování. Odrůdy Morava a Pálava byly pokoseny v květnu, červnu a říjnu 2000 a ponechány zavadnout na obsah sušiny 300 a 500 g/kg. Při silážování byla sledován obsah baktérií mléčného kvašení a kyselin a pH. Obsah kumestrolu se snižoval významně po 50 dnech silážování, ale stále byl detekovatelný po 150 dnech.
