The objective of the study was to evaluate degradation of hexane/xylenes mixture in waste gases using two bench-scale biofilters with different biofilter history. The first biofilter treated waste gas containing styrene vapor for 386 days. The second biofilter removed different mixtures of hexane, heptane, toluene and xylenes for 150 days. Three areas of results will be discussed: (A) Characterization of biofilter performance before pollutant changing, (B) Acclimation to new pollutant and (C) Comparisonof hexane/xylenes mixture degradation in the both biofilters.

Czech description
Cílem studie je zhodnotit vliv historie biofiltru na odstranění směsi hexan/xyleny z odpadního vzduchu pomocí dvou biofiltrů s rozdílnou historií. První biofiltr byl zatěžován styrenem po dobu 386 dní a druhý odstraňoval hexan, heptan, toluen a xyleny vrůzných poměrech a zastoupeních ve směsi po dobu 150 dnů. Práce se zabývá třemi základními tématy: a) charakterizace provozu biofiltrů před změnou polutantu, b) aklimatizace na nový polutant, c) porovnání degradační účinnosti v obou biofiltrech za stejných podmínek při degradaci směsi hexan/xyleny.
