Removing of Simulated and Real Gasoline from Waste Air by Biofiltration
Original language description
Atmospheric contamination with hydrocarbon vapors is a general phenomenon around the world. These compounds together with nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide and tropospheric ozone form smog that is one of the biggest problems of our technical civilization. There are many sources of emissions of complex hydrocarbon mixtures such as emission from nozzles at gas stations, from filling of storage tanks or chemical and petrochemical industry. These compounds are used as fuels, solvents or extraction agent. Theobjective of the study was to evaluate and to compare degradation of hexane/xylenes mixture in a ratio of 1:1mass (simulated gasoline) and real gasoline vapor (Natural 95, OMV GmbH) using biofilter. Aromatic gasoline components were removed more quicklyand more completely than aliphatic gasoline components from both the mixtures. The inlet concentration had a significant effect on the removal of aliphatic compounds. It can not be simply replaced gasoline by hexane/xylenes mixture when
