    The effects of feed composition on the nutritional value of edible insects remain still rather unexplored, especially in terms of bioactive compounds and micronutrients occurrence. Under such conditions, any new knowledge is desirable for a future production of high quality and safe edible insects.In this study, the effect of carrot addition to the feed on the composition of five groups (0, 3, 7, 14, and 60 days of adding carrot to the feed) of Jamaican field cricket tissue was investigated. First, metabolomic analysis using ultra-performance liquid chromatography with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometric detection was performed. Using the subsequent multivariate statistical analysis, it was possible to distinguish the tested groups of the Jamaican field crickets according to the composition of the feed.In combination with target screening, main markers of the presence of carrots in feed were found. Crickets exposed to carrots contained more β-carotene and its degradation products such as β-apo-14’carotenal and β-apo-12’carotenal. An increase in phytoene as a lycopene precursor was also detected.Trends in lipid pattern were also observed. The concentration of triacylglycerols with unsaturated fatty acids was higher in samples with the carrots in the feed. On the other hand, the concentration of saturated triacylglycerols was lower in samples exposed to carrots. Changes in phospholipids and lysophospholipids were detected as well. in general, there was a typical decrease in lysophospholipids in carrot-fed crickets. Increasing and decreasing trends were observed across the studied samples for some phospholipids. For example, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylinositol with 32 carbons and 2 double bonds were found to be on higher levels in carrot-fed crickets’ biomass. Contrary to that, the content of phosphatidylglycerols, PC 34:2, and PC 34:1 had decreased after serving carrots to the studied crickets.This study comprehensively describes changes in cricket biomass after adding carrots to feed for various time periods during cricket development. The results can contribute to the future optimization of edible insect breeding for food purposes and the production of a high nutritional quality products.
