A CAPE tool for evaluation of adsorber-reactor systems for treatment of exhausts from mobile sources
Original language description
Software to simulate dynamic operation and adaptive control of combined systems of monolithic catalytic reactors and adsorbers (catalytic traps) to treat mobile source exhausts is described. Monolithic reactors were modeled using a spatial 1-dimensiona l, 2-phase model consisting of a system of partial differential equations [PDE] (axial heat dispersion included); for the adsorbers a spatial 1-dimensional model (pseudo-homogeneous for the enthalpy balance) was used. The PDE system was solved by combining the Crank-Nicolson method (reactors) and the method of lines (adsorbers). Results of software application to 2 examples, the use of adsorber-reactor systems with mutual heat exchange to solve the cold-start problem and an adaptive dynamically operatedsystem of coupled monoliths for NOx redn. using feed-forward neural network for predictive control, are discussed.
