Extensibility of HYSYS simulation program
Original language description
Flowsheeting programs are used for performing of material balancing, sizing and costing calculation of chemical processes. HYSYS.Process is a flowsheeting tool to ensure that optimal designs are identified. It is also used to model existing plants to ensure equipment is performing per specification, to evaluate retrofits, and to improve the process. In this work, the extension possibilities of the HYSYS software are shown and described. Typical field for extension of a generic simulation software is reaction kinetics. The reaction mechanism of catalytic oxidation of sulfur dioxide by sulfuric acid manufacture was programmed as a reaction kinetic extension and added to HYSYSThe main benefit of this extension is using a chemical species properties database and performing mass and heat balances along a catalytic bed of a reactor by the program. The reaction kinetics extensions can be consequently used for reactors design projection, optimization and evaluation.
