    The distillation column design from HETP using absorption data

  • Original language description

    A frequently used method for the distillation column design is based on the Height Equivalent to a Theoretical Plate (HETP) concept, which proceeds from the basic idea of interfacial mass transfer. Two groups of models used for the HETP data treatment are presented - the 1st group based on the absorption mass transfer data (kLa and kGa) and the 2nd group, which does not proceed from the kLa and kGa data directly, but adjusts model parameters by the experimental distillation HETP data regressively. Models from the 1st group are compared with the experimental distillation HETP data and on the other hand models from the 2nd group are compared with the experimental absorption mass transfer data. Such procedure enables to pass judgement on the relation between absorption and distillation.
