Comparison of numerical and analytical solutions of the one-dimensional dispersion model
Original language description
The study of the hydrodynamics of a flow system using the impulse-response technique is a common method used to characterize flow regimes in pilot and industrial plant processes. Such a diagnosis requires the evaluation of residence time distribution (RTD) curves obtained using a probe at the vessel outlet. One of the models used is the one-dimensional dispersion model (Dankwerts5, 1953). It is the aim of this contribution to determine the accuracy of applying a numerical method and it's limits of applicability in comparison with the analytical solutions of a given simplified dispersion model, using four different impulse functions; positive step, negative step, Dirac and sinusoidal functions.
