Mass transfer effects in modelling of catalytic monolith converter with NOx storage
Original language description
NOx storage and reduction catalytic converters (NSRC) have been developed to lower the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from economical lean-burn gasoline and diesel engines. In the course of longer lean period, NOx are stored on the surface under theexcess of oxygen. Then they are reduced within the short enrichment phase by the excess of components resulting from the rich fuel injection (CO, H2 and hydrocarbons). Multiphase, spatially pseudo-2D mathematical model has been developed to study the mass transport effects in the NSR catalytic monolith reactors. It includes the description of external mass transfer from the bulk gas to the pores of the catalytic layer (washcoat) and internal diffusion and reactions in the porous structures of the catalyst, with surface deposition of chosen components (oxygen and NOx storage). The simulation results of periodic lean/rich operation of NSR converter are presented and mass transport effects and their limitations are discussed. The influence
