Experimental study on mass transfer mechanism in gas - liquid dispersions.
Original language description
The mass transfer mechanism is studied through mass transfer coefficient dependencies on operating parameters (power dissipation rate, gas concentration) and physical properties of the system (viscosity, surface tension). These dependencies are usually interpreted through two distinct theories: first based on bubble motion characteristics (slip velocity models), second based on turbulence intensity near the interface. Experimental data are obtained in an agitated vessel (T=0.18m) equipped with single Rushton turbine (D=0.075m) and calm liquid reactor (T=0.12m). The mass transfer coefficient in the agitated vessel is measured by Danckwerts' plot technique applied on a system sulfite - pure oxygen or sulfite - air. The results are compared to the literature ones and successfully correlated by a model equation based on the turbulence theory. The influence of surfactants is discussed in terms of surface pressure and molecule structure, both considered as important.
